In this image Ray exposed the paper to light a total of three times, with different objects over the paper each time. The first exposure used a pair of hands as a stencil, the second exposure used two people kissing as the stencil for the exposure, and finally the last exposure used 2 darkroom trays as a stencil. With each different exposure the paper darkened where not covered.
Ray claimed to have invented the photogram, which he decided to name the rayograph, even though the photogram had been created several years before, and was around from the earliest forms of photography. However he still claimed to have created it as he justified its artistic sense and explained it as an unpredictable form of photography. |
On my bus journey to the market I decided to do my interview, I interviewed a girl behind me, and explained that I was photographing my journey to a nearby market, and asked her if I could ask her a few questions on what journey she was going on that day. She said that she would participate in the interview, so I asked her where she was going, and she said that she was going to get food with her friend that she hadn't seen in a while, and then they were going to go back to her friends house after to watch some movies. I then asked her if she had any previous experience with photography or art, and if she had any ideas on what I should take pictures of to add into my photoshoot, she said that she had, had experience with art at school, and she was always fairly interested in architecture, so she thought that I should add some pictures involving architecture to my project.
