My favourite photos above are the ones that are more simplistic, this is because I think that they will be easier to manipulate in photoshop, and look more effective in the zine once it's finished when edited to black and white.
Keld Helmer-Peterson (black light)
Helmer-Peterson was a danish photographer who achieved fame from his coloured photography. but also published several books only including black and white photos, Which have dramatic contrast. In some of his images even mid tones between black and white have been removed, leaving even more contrast. He created these images, using cameras and scanners, until the right effect was achieved on the photos.
Zine edits
These are my edited images that I chose to use in my zine that I made. I edited these images in photoshop, by changing them to greyscale, mainly increasing the contrast of them and either decreasing or increasing the exposure of them. I did this because I wanted my images to have the effect that Helmer-Petersons images had as much as possible, which was a high contrast between the colours in the images and due this this contrast the images looking very abstract.
I think most of my images do capture this abstract look to them, apart from the third photo of the chairs and the sixth photo of the tape on the door. I think I could've made these images look more abstract by increasing the exposure on them, so there was more contrast between the black and the white in the photos.
Making my zine
I made my first zine using my edited images shown above, and by using a zine template to ensure that my images would be the right size to fit in a zine. I then arranged the images into the order that I thought they would work best in, and then printed the zine on A3 paper. I then re printed the zine, but this time on A4 paper, to see what size I thought worked best for my zine. For this set of pictures I preferred them on the A4 size zine rather then the A3 size zine, as I thought that as the images were quite bold they worked better smaller then larger.
Editing my images like Helmer
I edited some of my images to look like helmers images by turning them to negative. I thoughts the outcome would look more like his images then they do, but I still like the outcome of my images and think they will look good if presented as they look very different from most images that are normally presented.
